Mahander Vihar (alias Army Flats, MDC, Panchkula) is located at Sector 4 of Mansadevi Complex (MDC), Panchkula, Haryana, 134114, India. The complex is named in the memory of Maj Mahander Singh Chaudhary, MVC (Posthumously) to commemorate and pay tribute to the martyr. The complex is close to Mansa Devi Shrine in Panchkula and foothills of Shivalik ranges. The complex came up in 1996 with 332 flats allotted to the defence officers. Later few civilian purchased the property, thus it has become home to individuals from defence and civilian background.

Mahander Vihar (alias Army Flats, MDC, Panchkula) is a gated community living with proper security arrangements with CCTV coverage. The society has large number of facilities like shopping centre within complex, park with a walking plaza and children swings and slides, and a colorful fountain. Besides, it has Community Centre, Guest rooms, ICICI Bank ATM and around the clock, power and water supply. Administratively, it has round the clock security with latest app for visitors, domestic help, washer men, safaiwala and gardeners. The society has own in-house maintenance support of electrician and plumber.

Major Mahander Singh ChaudharyMajor Mahander Singh Chaudhary, MVC (Posthumously)

On 9 October 1962, Major M S Chaudhary was ordered to establish, with two platoons, a post at Singjang, north of the log bridge in NEFA. On 10 October, this post was assaulted by a large Chinese force of about battalion strength. Although Major Chaudhary’s post had not had sufficient time to dig in and coordinate the defences, he stood there with the small arms and ammunition at his disposal and kept the enemy at bay for more than nine hours, after which time he was ordered to withdraw south of the log bridge which he did successfully Although he was wounded, he refused to be evacuated and continued to be a source of great inspiration to his men throughout this and the subsequent operation of 20 October. In the latter battle, he inflicted some 100 casualties on the enemy. Maj Mahander Singh displayed courage and leadership of a high order.
